About us

Glassmakers since 1957

Ecoglassworks is the brand of the Ładna glassworks near Tarnów, Poland: hand-formed glass made from recycled glass cullet, by a family now in its third generation at the furnace.

Hand-formed glass from our own furnace

We specialise in glass for floristry: vases, terrarium glass and pots, alongside household glassware. Every piece is shaped by hand, so each has its own character.

We work with businesses of every size, from a single shop to a wholesaler, and adapt products to what they need.

Our history

The Fisteks, one of Tarnów's oldest families

From a shop on Krakowska Street to a glassworks that sells on four continents.

  1. Pre-war

    A shop on Krakowska Street

Grandparents Władysław and Wiktoria Fistek ran a colonial goods shop at 37 Krakowska Street in Tarnów, helped by their eight sons, who later ran it themselves. For its merits in trade the family received a medal from the Kraków Merchants' Congregation. The godfather of the eighth brother was the President of Poland, Ignacy Mościcki.

  2. 1957

The first private glassworks in Tarnów

Their mother had died, and their father died in Auschwitz in 1943. The eight brothers decided to build a family business together. In 1957 it took shape on Ujejskiego Street, behind the family home: first glass tubing and packaging glass, later crystal and lighting glass. Raw materials were scarce in Poland, so production ran mainly on recycled glass.

  3. 1970s–80s

    Four family glassworks

The brothers opened three more family glassworks in Tarnów. They drove their handmade glass in small cars to shops all over Poland, among them on Floriańska Street in Kraków and Piotrkowska Street in Łódź.

  4. 1986

    Huta Szkła „Ładna”

Janusz Fistek, son of Stanisław, founded the Ładna glassworks in the village of Ładna near Tarnów, as the second generation of the family trade.

  5. 1990–2000

    Hard years

The economic changes of the decade were difficult for the family glassworks, and the other plants closed. Ładna carried the tradition on.

  6. 2003

    The third generation

Łukasz Fistek, Janusz's son, joined the company.

  7. 2004

    New markets

Poland joined the European Union, which helped us enter new foreign markets.

  8. Today

    Over 95% exported

Hand-shaped glass from Ładna is sold in Europe, the USA, Australia and Asia. The third generation keeps developing the business through glassmaking skill, design and investment in production.

Material

Made from recycled glass

All glass cullet used as the glass source in our batch comes from recycled glass. The melting process also requires additional mineral raw materials, such as soda and potash.

This describes the glass itself. Corks, lids, wood, paint, metal fittings and packaging are separate materials.

Craft

Shaped by hand

The glass is shaped by hand, by glassblowers who have spent their working lives at the furnace. Decorating, painting, sandblasting and the made-up arrangements are done at the plant as well, which is why we can change a colour or a finish without sending the work somewhere else.

Because every piece is formed by hand, shape, size and small air bubbles can vary slightly from piece to piece.
